  • TI-83 Plus Emulator Installation and How to Use NOTE: You must have some kind of “unzip” program, like Winzip, in order to do this procedure. You can obtain an unzip program on the internet. Search for one on Google.com if you need one. For the screen shots that you see here, the operating system I used is Windows XP Professional. Wabbitemu supports the TI-73, TI-81, TI-82, TI-83, TI-83 Plus, TI-83 Plus Silver Edition, TI-84 Plus, TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, TI-85, and TI-86. Fast and convenient, Wabbitemu allows you to always have your trusty calculator with you. Because Wabbitemu is an emulator, the calculator it creates will act exactly like the real thing.

    INTRODUCTION

The TI-83 was released as the successor to the TI-82 and featured a newer, more contoured case design that has since been used on all of TI's newercalculators. The TI-83 features backwards compatibility with TI-82 programsand some newer financial functions, but by far the most notable aspect of thiscalculator is built-in assembly programming capability supported by TIitself. This advance saved curious programmers the trouble of 'hacking' thecalculator themselves to achieve this functionality, and marked the beginningof TI's embracement of assembly programming. The TI-83 was a popular programming platform, but has now been replaced by the TI-83 Plus, an updated model.

    OFFICIAL UPGRADES

    » TI Connect
The TI Connect is the latest link cable produced by TI. It has a higher data transfer rate than the TI-Graph Link cable. It's a USB cable and lets you transfer data files (such as programs) between your calculator and your computer.

    » TI-Graph Link
The TI-Graph Link is the older link cable produced by TI. It does not have as high of data transfer rate, but it does work wih almost all calculators. It connects to your serial port and like TI Connect is widely used to transfer data files (such as programs) between your calculator and your computer.

    ROM VERSIONS

From time to time, TI will update the internal code of their calculators towork around bugs, optimize functions, and even add features. This results inseveral versions of each calculator in the marketplace. You can check the ROMversion of your TI-83 using the following key sequence and reading the numberon your screen:

    [MODE] [ALPHA] [S]

WARNING: After entering the above key sequence, DO NOT PRESS ENTER! If youdo, your calculator's memory will be erased. Press any other key to exit backharmlessly.

    UNOFFICIAL UPGRADES

    » IR Link
The IR Link allows you to control infrared devices from your calculator orcommunicate with other calculators (to play games or chat) over a wirelessconnection.

    » Link Cables
Link cables let you transfer data files (such as programs) between yourcalculator and your computer.

    » Power Extension Page
The Power Extension instructions will show you how to use AA (instead of AAA)batteries without making any modifications to your calculator.

    » TI-83 Turbo Page
These modifications to your TI-83 can overclock the calculator to 3-4 times itsoriginal speed.

    BASIC PROGRAMMING

BASIC programming on the TI-83 is nearly identical to that of the TI-82.

An emulator is useless without a ROM (Read Only Memory) image, which containsthe software you use to operate the calculator. It's illegal to distributethese ROM image files; you must copy the ROM from your calculator using a linkcable. See our Linking sectionfor link cable and link software information.

Actually downloading a ROM image is tricky, but newer emulator and linking software makethe process easier. Below are instructions for obtaining a ROM from eachcalculator.

IMPORTANT: Do not ask us, or anyone else, for ROM images. It is illegal todistribute them. The only way to legally obtain a ROM image is to download itfrom your calculator using the procedures below.
